Newborn girl delivered after pregnant mother killed

LONDON, Ky. (KT) – A newborn girl was delivered after her pregnant mother was shot and killed Saturday, according to the Kentucky State Police.

Police were called to Baptist Health Corbin around 6:20 p.m. Saturday after a pregnant woman with a gunshot wound came to the emergency room.

Geri D. Johnson, 29, of Williamsburg died from her injuries but medical staff were able to deliver Johnson’s baby. The infant was transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and is in critical condition, KSP said in the release.

An investigation in the shooting death of Johnson is ongoing, police said. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.
