Details for Second Baptist Church in Union City, Tenn., is seeking a worship pastor

CHURCH INFORMATION: Second Baptist Church was constituted in 1951 after beginning as a Sunday school outreach of First Baptist. We currently have over 1600 members on roll and average 700-800 (Post-Covid) in Sunday morning worship services. We also have a midweek worship service on Wednesday evening. Second Baptist is Pastor led, deacon served, committee operated, and congregation approved. We are passionate for excellence in worship and committed to missions locally, state-wide, nationally and internationally. Our worship style is intentionally blended in all services with a large choir as its centerpiece. We are seeking a full-time worship pastor who will join us in glorifying God, proclaiming the Gospel, discipling believers and making Christ known both at home and abroad.

JOB TITLE: Worship Pastor

PURPOSE: To Provide pastoral leadership to the worship and production ministries of Second Baptist Church, Union City, Tennessee.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the congregation of Second Baptist Church; supervised by the Pastor with support of the Personnel Committee.


The Worship Pastor will bear responsibility to develop, oversee and lead worship services, special and seasonal programs, coordinating all service details based on the overall direction established by the Senior Pastor. This position is pastoral in nature, requiring service not solely as a musical/arts director and ministry coordinator, but also as a spiritual shepherd to the people within the worship and production ministries.

Worship Services

• Plan, oversee and lead all weekly worship gatherings on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

• Coordinate all aspects of the worship ministry to function together cohesively. Overseeing song and choral selection, media production, sound and lighting enhancements, and coordination of all instrumentalists, vocalists, and other participants.

• Coordinate all worship services, special, and seasonal events to be in alignment with Biblical standards and convictions.

• Model true worship both in service and outside of it. Choir, Instrumentation, Musical Groups

• Enlist, train, and lead individuals or groups participating in corporate worship (i.e., soloists, musical groups, instrumentalists, choir, etc.).

• Direct all weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate excellent worship experiences in all services.

• Involve the various music and worship groups in appropriate training events and opportunities for service, including conference, ministry, and mission opportunities.

• Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers to lead age-graded worship and music ministry areas (i.e., children’s choir, high school ensemble, senior adult group, etc).

• Plan and oversee the music, video, and audio budgets in coordination with the appropriate committee.

• Build contacts and relationships with local musicians, educational leaders, and organizations for both outreach and staffing purposes.

Pastoral Shepherding

• Disciple and shepherd the worship and production ministry teams by providing care, follow up and biblical encouragement for life and ministry.

• Invest time developing relationships with lost people so as to be effective in pursuing the Great Commission and helping the church to do the same.



• A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with Him expressed by ongoing spiritual disciplines (Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, fasting, confession, fellowship and evangelism).

• Meet the biblical characteristics and qualifications for an elder/pastor/overseer given in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

• Affirm the inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture and able to teach sound doctrine. Must affirm, lead, and teach in accordance with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.

• Affirm a special calling to the ministry, validated through ordination (or willingness to be ordained).


• Demonstrated excellence as a worship leader (minimum: 4 years)

• Skilled use of technology in worship and of sound, lighting, computers, presentation software, and video production preferred.

• Musical skill (minimum: expertise in choral/instrumental conducting; ability to read and teach music; preferred: orchestration, personal instrumental proficiency, music writing).

• Proven experience and positive attitude in building relationships and leading successful teams.
