ASHLAND, Ky. (KT) – U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie and a Fox News contributor are the keynote speakers for a freedom march and patriot rally, part of a national movement that is taking place in 28 states and 50 cities on Saturday.
Ashland organizer David Gill said they will have a freedom march through downtown to the city’s park where Massie and Leonydus Johnson will be the main speakers. Ten other local speakers are scheduled, he said.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and U.S. Senator Rand Paul are sending audio messages, Gill said.
Ashland is the only city in Kentucky hosting a freedom rally on Saturday, the organizer said.
“We want to present something that’s opposite of the riots and ugly protests,” Gill said. “It’s a celebration of our Constitution and the freedoms we have with the Constitution. We are trying not to be a political rally. We want to put the focus on freedom. We’re participating because we believe what they’re trying to do.”
Gill said he was expecting between 300 and 500 to participate in the march between 3 and 4 p.m. and the event at the bandstand in the park that goes from 4 to 6:30 p.m. A Christian praise band will also be playing some music, he said.
“It’s a family event,” he said. “We aren’t here to begin any conflict. I think it’ll be something that everybody can like. We should celebrate our freedoms.”
The national event is sponsored by the American Patriot Council.
